Senior Project Engineer

Reports To: Technical Project Manager

Working Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 8:30am 5:00pm
Friday: 8:30am 2:30pm
37.5 hours per week, with additional hours as required to meet business needs.

Role Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Project Engineer to join a specialist engineering business delivering industrial process cooling and related systems. This role combines technical expertise with project leadership and is responsible for the successful design, installation, commissioning, and delivery of complex engineering projects across a range of industrial environments.

The successful candidate will lead project activities from initial design through to customer handover, coordinating internal teams, subcontractors, and external stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

This position is ideally suited to a highly organised and proactive engineering professional who enjoys managing complex projects, solving technical challenges, and leading multidisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities

Project Delivery & Technical Leadership

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of project requirements and provide technical support during the design and delivery phases.
  • Support commissioning activities, including the preparation and review of commissioning documentation, service documentation, certification, and project handover records.
  • Manage subcontractors and specialist contractors, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Create, maintain, and monitor detailed project plans to ensure effective project execution and delivery.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned projects, ensuring clear and effective communication between customers, suppliers, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Develop and implement project communication plans to maintain stakeholder engagement and customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, implementing appropriate mitigation measures where required.
  • Ensure all required Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are obtained, reviewed, approved, and issued within project timescales.
  • Maintain accurate project records and documentation in accordance with company procedures and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements across project activities.
  • Promote best practice and maintain awareness of emerging technologies, industry developments, and market trends.

Qualifications & Skills

Essential Qualifications

  • Formal engineering qualification.
  • Recognised project management qualification.
  • Full, valid driving licence.
  • Strong administrative, organisational, and planning skills.
  • Health & Safety qualification or relevant industry experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and project management software.
  • Experience using project planning, reporting, and work management systems.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum five years' experience in project engineering or project delivery within an industrial engineering environment.
  • Strong engineering background, including mechanical systems, electrical principles, control systems, engineering mathematics, and system design.
  • Proven experience managing the design, installation, commissioning, and delivery of industrial equipment or process systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage customer relationships, stakeholder expectations, and project outcomes in demanding environments.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with a track record of successfully delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Experience coordinating subcontractors and managing external resources on large-scale engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of industrial fabrication methods, including pipework systems, welded assemblies, machining, and related processes.
  • Experience supporting the design and optimisation of process cooling or similar industrial systems, including equipment selection and system specification.
  • Experience integrating equipment and systems from multiple suppliers into bespoke engineering solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and analytical skills.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • High attention to detail with excellent documentation and reporting
